In Our Community California American Water is an active community partner in the Ventura County service area. Whether it’s the Annual “Love Run” or an educational school outreach program in one of our district’s schools, employees are there to reinforce the conservation message and answer customer questions. The Ventura County service area also is an active sponsor of a number of charitable events in the community it serves, such as the Amgen Earth Day Event. In addition, our employees annually support Water for People. School Education Since 2008, California American Water implemented a resource efficiency and education program through Resource Action Programs (RAP). The program begins with classroom discussions teaching the importance of using water and energy efficiently, followed by hands-on, creative problem solving. Students take home a kit that contains high-efficiency measures and with the help of their parents/guardians, they install the measures in their homes and complete a Home Survey. By installing and monitoring the new efficiency measures in their own homes, students are able to gauge what they have learned with actual water, energy, and monetary savings. The materials also meet state and national educational standards, which allow the program to easily fit into teachers’ existing schedules. Since 2008 over 6,200 students in Ventura County have gone through this program.
