Workplace Giving

In addition to participating in local programs, American Water also sponsors workplace giving campaigns for two organizations focused on helping communities around the world… the United Way and Water For People.

Water For People
Around the world, 884 million people do not have access to safe drinking water and 2.5 billion are without adequate sanitation facilities. Every day, nearly 6,000 people who share our planet die from water-related illnesses, and the vast majority of those are children.

Water For People helps communities in developing countries improve their quality of life by supporting the development of locally sustainable drinking water resources, sanitation facilities, and health and hygiene education programs. The use of simple, locally available technologies has enabled Water for People to help thousands of people lead more productive, prosperous and healthier lives.

For more than a decade, American Water and its employees have supported Water For People, donating more than $1 million to its life-changing work. For more information or to make a contribution of your own, please go to www.waterforpeople.org.

United Way
United Way is a worldwide network in 45 countries and territories, including nearly 1,300 local organizations in the U.S. It focuses on creating opportunities for a better life for all, by focusing on three key building blocks:

Education – Helping Children and Youth Achieve Their Potential
Income – Promoting Financial Stability and Independence
Health – Improving People’s Health

American Water and its employees support the United Way via an annual employee giving campaign, which provides an opportunity to give back and advance the common good in the communities in which we live and work.
