SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--California American Water is pleased to announce being named to the U.S. Veterans Magazine’s Best of the Best Top Veteran-Friendly Company and Top Supplier Diversity Programs lists. In addition, the company recently received the 105 percent Club Award from the U.S. Veterans Business Alliance. The two coveted distinctions recognize California American Water’s commitment and efforts to assist veterans and diverse business owners.

The company is committed and works tirelessly to include veterans in its procurement processes. In 2017, 6.5 percent of California American Water’s procurement spend was with disabled veterans, exceeding the California Public Utilities Commission’s target of 1.5 percent. In the same year, California American Water worked with the following prime and subcontractor disabled veteran businesses. These firms included Aqueous Vets, Altitude Construction, Business Products Express, Blue Watchdog, Americal Solutions, Wells Sweeping Company, Sacramento for Tractors, and 11th Aerial & Architectural Photography.

U.S. Veterans Magazine publishes Best of the Best lists annually for veteran-friendly companies, schools, franchises, supplier diversity programs, and government and law enforcement agencies by polling hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies and evaluating their work with veterans. The Best of the Best lists are compiled from market-based and independent research, diversity conference participation, and survey responses.

At the USVBA’s annual Keeping the Promise Conference, state entities were awarded the 105 percent Club Award. The 105 percent Club Award recognizes companies that reached more than a 105 percent of Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise spend in the State of California and has shown true interest in furthering Veteran entrepreneurship. The USVBA is a national veteran-led organization that empowers, provides resources to, and works side-by-side with veterans to promote and support them in establishing, maintaining and growing viable business enterprises.
