Illinois American Water to Upgrade Critical Water Distribution System; Lane Closures Expected

Urbana, ILL.(Nov 9, 2017)-Next week, Illinois American Water will be completing critical upgrades to Champaign County's water distribution system.  The work involves replacing and installing four distribution valves and replacing pipe and fittings at the intersection of Main Street and Race Street in Urbana.

In order to complete this work, crews will begin digging at the intersection of Main Street and Race Street in Urbana on Monday, Nov.13, 2017.  Motorists should use caution when driving in the area and obey traffic signs, detour routes and flaggers in the area.

If possible, motorists should avoid the area.  Weather permitting, road resotration should be completed and all lanes reopened by the end of the week.

While crews are upgrading the water system infrastructure on Monday, Nov.13, 2017 about 25 customers will experience a temporary impact to their water service.  Residential customers will be notified of service impact and related action required via Illinois American Water's customer notification system.
