Lexington, Ky., (Aug. 15, 2017) – Kentucky American Water has started another round of projects to replace old water mains. The latest projects, which total approximately $1.5 million in investment, include mains on Park Avenue, Orchard Avenue, Clay Avenue, and West 4th Street in Lexington.
The water mains located on the 300, 400 and 500 blocks of Park Avenue and the 600 block of Orchard Avenue date back to between 1907 and 1914. Those on the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of Clay Avenue date back between 1906 and 1907. The water mains being replaced on West 4th Street between Smith Street and North Upper Street were installed in 1897 and 1913. The upgrades will enhance hydraulic capacity in mains that serve these areas and eliminate discolored water caused by natural buildup in pipes that occurs over time.
