Kentucky American Water continues to invest in upgrading water system infrastructure, and will soon start a nearly $1 million water main improvement project near Lafayette High School in Lexington.
The project, to begin mid-July, will involve replacing water mains on the following roads: Southport Drive from Rosemont Garden to Reed Lane, Picadome Park from Southport Drive to the dead end, Norway Street and Koster Drive. The 2-inch-diameter water mains on these roads were installed in the 1940s and will be replaced by 8-inch-diameter mains. These newer, larger-diameter pipes will enhance water pressure in the area and the aesthetics of the water delivered to customers, since the new water pipes will not have the build-up of natural sediment inside them, which can occur over many decades of use.
Traffic may be impacted at times during this construction, which is scheduled for completion in December. Motorists traveling through the area are urged to use extra caution for their own safety and the safety of those working in the area.
