Missouri American Water Switching from Quarterly to Monthly Billing for Customers in St. Louis County

Customers can better manage their water usage with timely monthly bill via conversion beginning in September

ST. LOUIS (August 28, 2018) – Missouri American Water is beginning a process to transition customers in St. Louis County from quarterly to monthly billing.

Beginning in September, customers in the company’s service areas in St. Louis County who have had an Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) reading device installed on their meter will receive a final quarterly bill. From that final quarterly bill forward, those customers will receive monthly bills.

“The switch to monthly billing will make household budgeting easier since customers will be receiving 12 smaller bills throughout the year instead of four quarterly water bills,” said Missouri American Water President Cheryl Norton. “The change will also help customers to better manage their water usage and to detect and fix plumbing leaks sooner since they will be receiving more frequent and timely information about their water usage.”

AMI devices use radio signals to wirelessly transmit water usage information back to Missouri American Water, eliminating the need for manual meter reading. This efficient process provides us with more timely information on customer water usage, which we then can provide to customers via a now-monthly bill. The effort to deploy AMI is ongoing and customers who have not had the conversion should look for communications regarding AMI installations through 2020. More information about AMI, as well as the transition to monthly billing in St. Louis County, is available on the Missouri American Water website at: www.moamwater.com.

Missouri American Water encourages customers to sign up for paperless billing to reduce the amount of mail, waste and clutter associated with receiving bills through the mail. Participating customers will receive an e-mail notification when their bill is ready to view each month. There is no charge for this service and customers will have easy access to electronic versions of any materials they would have received with their paper bill.

The company also offers an automatic payment program to help customers ensure their water bills are paid on time, every time, directly from their checking or savings account. The service is free and customers can discontinue it at any time.

To sign up for paperless billing or the automatic payment program, click on the Customer Service and Billing  link at  www.moamwater.com or call our Customer Service Center at (866) 430-0820.

This change will only apply to quarterly billed customers in St. Louis County.
