JEFFERSON CITY, MO. (July 30, 2020) – Missouri American Water will be investing $1.7 million to upgrade water mains in Jefferson City in a project beginning Monday, August 3rd.
The project includes the replacement of water mains and related valves, hydrants, crossings and service lines along Southwest Boulevard from Missouri Boulevard to the company’s booster station between Woodclift Dr. and Swifts Hwy.
“We carefully plan and invest in our systems to deliver clean, safe, reliable and affordable water and sewer service to our customers throughout the state,” said Debbie Dewey, president of Missouri American Water. “Replacing aging pipe is key to our commitment to provide outstanding service and reliability, both now and for future generations.”
The cast iron pipe, which will be replaced with PVC, was originally installed in 1964.
“The section of pipe being replaced has a history of main breaks that have caused service interruptions, boil advisories, and traffic disruptions,” said Brent Haas, Operations Manager in Jefferson City. “Making this investment will help prevent future main breaks, improving reliability for our customers.”
Work on the project generally will take place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Weather-pending, the construction phase of the project is expected to be completed by the end of December, with restoration of any disturbed land to be completed in spring 2021.
Missouri American Water continues to conduct its work in coordination and compliance with all federal, state and local agencies and directives. As construction begins, Missouri American Water asks customers to continue following social distancing recommendations issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention by keeping at least 6 feet (2 meters) between our employees and customers.
