WELCOME TO NEW JERSEY AMERICAN WATER.
WE’RE PROUD TO BE YOUR NEW WATER SERVICE PROVIDER.

On October 7, 2025, New Jersey American Water completed the acquisition of South Orange Village’s water distribution system. We have been providing high-quality, reliable water service to our customers for more than a century, and we’re committed to delivering that same standard of excellence to you.

You’re in good hands.

Our focus is to provide you with safe, reliable water service – and we have the people and technologies in place to get the job done right. As our valued customer, we wanted to share with you some information about the services we provide, as well as some changes that will be taking place over time.

About your rates:

As part of the sale agreement approved by the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU), we will be adopting South Orange Village’s rates as follows:

  • Fixed Monthly Minimum Charge (based on meter size): For the typical residential customer with a 5/8” meter, the charge would be $16.67 per month, which includes the first 1,600 gallons of water used.
  • Volumetric Water Usage Charge: $1.06952 per 100 gallons.
  • All other fees in accordance with New Jersey American Water’s tariff approved by the BPU. This includes a Lead Service Line Replacement Charge (for the average residential customer who uses 5,642 gallons of water per month, the monthly charge would be $4.76.)

New Jersey American Water is regulated by the BPU, and any future proposed changes in rates will be subject to extensive review and approval. To learn more, visit newjerseyamwater.com. Under Customer Service & Billing, select Your Water and Wastewater Rates.

About billing:

For customers who are already billed monthly, we will continue to bill you monthly for water service. For customers who are billed quarterly, we will be transitioning you to monthly billing.

Here’s how the billing transition will work: New Jersey American Water will begin billing you for water service mid-November 2025. The first bill will cover water service charges from October 7 through New Jersey American Water’s meter read date in November. You will be billed monthly thereafter.

We're investing in your water system.

We believe in investing in our infrastructure. We continually evaluate our systems and facilities, prioritize projects and then make necessary capital investments to improve service. Statewide, we invest over $500 million annually to improve the water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems. Locally, New Jersey American Water plans to invest over $50 million in the first 10 years of ownership to improve the quality and reliability of water service, including:

  • Identify and replace lead and galvanized steel service lines.
  • Replace Crest Drive Standpipe within five years.
  • Rehabilitate the Main Reservoir and the Newstead Watersphere to strengthen the system’s resilience.
  • Implement an aggressive water main replacement/rehabilitation program.
  • Complete a comprehensive analysis of the system to prioritize other system improvements.
