VOORHEES, N.J. (January 12, 2018) – New Jersey American Water will be investing $1 million in new water mains in its service area of Fanwood and Plainfield beginning next week. The approximate 2,700 feet of new ductile iron pipe replaces water main that was installed as far back as the 1930s.
New Jersey American Water’s qualified contractor, Montana Construction will work along North Avenue, from Terrill Road in Plainfield to Martine Avenue in Fanwood. Weather permitting the project will be completed by the end of March. Work hours will be from 8:30 am to 6:00 pm, Mondays through Saturday and Sundays as needed. Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain project schedule. Final street restoration will be completed in the summer 2018.
"With the installation of the new water mains, our customers in this area should experience increased water flows for residences and fire protection, and continued improvement in reliability," stated Michael Bange, New Jersey American Water Manager of Field Operations. "These water main improvements are part of New Jersey American Water's multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life."
Bange added that for the publics and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. New Jersey American Water values the safety of its workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.
New Jersey American Water recently published an interactive Infrastructure Upgrade Map on its website to share details about its pipeline renewal projects. The map is located at www.newjerseyamwater.com under Water Quality, System Updates.
