New Jersey American Water Investing Over $570,000 in Lakewood

VOORHEES, N.J. (June 14, 2018) New Jersey American Water is replacing approximately 2,500 feet of aging water main in its Lakewood service area. The company is replacing main that was installed in the 1930s with new ductile iron main along Somerset Street, from East 7th Street to East Bergen Street; Lexington Avenue, from East Kennedy Blvd. to 1st Street and Forest Avenue, from West Kennedy Blvd. to 9th Street.

This $570,000 investment will continue to improve water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in this community. This improvement is part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion dollar program to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that is reaching the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.

New Jersey American Water’s local qualified contractors CRJ Contracting Corporation and Perna Finnigan, Inc. will begin work this month and is expected to be completed by the end of September.

Perna Finnigan have already begun work last week on Somerset Street. Work hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work outside these hours is not expected unless required to maintain project schedule. Final street restoration will be completed in the fall of 2018.

For the public’s and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns are likely to occur during work hours. All emergency vehicles and local traffic will be allowed access during construction. New Jersey American Water values the safety of its workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.
