Paramount to New York American Water (NYAW) is the provision of safe and reliable water services to our customers as well as the first responders that we serve and support. NYAW was informed by the Woodmere Fire Department that there are six fire hydrants in the Woodmere Neighborhood that may have limited water flow. Therefore, NYAW has developed a strategy and action plan to improve fire service support in Woodmere.
The action plan is composed of three phases of which Phase I has already been completed:
Please note that we have determined that three of the six hydrants will remain out of service and have discussed contingencies with the Woodmere Fire Department. Phases 2 and 3 will include the replacement of the water main that provides service to Oak and Linden Streets. Phases 2 and 3 of the plan have already been vetted and approved by the Nassau County Department of Health and was included in our pipeline replacement plan for 2019. However, NYAW has decided to expedite the scheduled 2019 projects (Phases 2 and 3) in the Woodmere area for completion as soon as possible in 2018.
