Project Will Replace Approximately 6,000 Feet of Century Old Water Mains
Cambridge, N.Y. (June, 2017) – New York American Water (NYAW) continues its investment in the Cambridge water system with a planned $1 million main replacement project. This construction project in the Village of Cambridge will replace approximately 6,000 feet of 130 year old water mains along State Route 313 and through the towns of Jackson and White Creek. The project site preparations started on May 15, 2017 and is expected to be completed in August 2017.
“New York American Water’s capital improvement program ensures that aging water systems, like the one in Cambridge, receive the necessary upgrades to remain viable and supply the community with clean water,” said NYAW President Carmen Tierno. “This million dollar water main replacement project will improve water quality for our customers, increase flow and pressure for emergency services, and provide a more resilient system for the future.”
Included in this project is a new water main feed from the supply wells to the Village of Cambridge, which will improve fire flow and overall system operation and maintenance capabilities. Retiring the old eight-inch cast iron water main installed in 1886 and replacing it with a 12- inch HDPE main will help to improve water quality and increase water pressure for New York American Water customers in the area.
In 2016, NYAW successfully completed the construction of a 157, 000-gallon water storage tank in Cambridge, as well as installing more than 2,400 feet of 12-inch pipeline to connect the new tank to the community’s existing water system. Given the success of that project and its efficient rollout, New York American Water will be using the same engineering design and construction management company, Entech Engineering, to carry out the Route 313 water main replacement project.
Customers with questions about the project are encouraged to contact NYAW’s customer service center at 1-877-426-6999.
