New York American Water Investing $660,000 in Malverne

Water Main Replacement Project to Improve Water Quality and Service Reliability

Merrick, NY (March 20, 2018)—New York American Water is investing $660,000 to install new eight-inch ductile iron water mains along three stretches of road in Malverne. The project includes the replacement of approximately 3,300 feet of six-inch water mains installed between 1924 and 1936, nine fire hydrants and 100 service lines. This main replacement project will improve water quality and service reliability for residents and increase water flows for commercial use and firefighting.

“Nothing is more important than high-quality drinking water—it’s why New York American Water prides itself on its level of infrastructure investment,” said Carmen Tierno, president of New York American Water. “Water infrastructure across Long Island is aging, and it is crucial that we as a company stay ahead of the curve. We do this by focusing on the areas of greatest need within our service territory. This allows us to provide the highest possible impact on water quality and service reliability for the community.”

The scheduled main replacement projects will take place along three different roads, and is expected to be completed in approximately six weeks. This project is also being coordinated with the Village of Malverne; final road restoration will be completed by the Village of Malverne Road Construction Project.
