New York American Water Investing $700,000 in East Rockaway

Water Main Replacement Project to Improve Water Quality and Service Reliability

Merrick, NY (July 3, 2018)—New York American Water is investing $700,000 to install 2,400 feet of eight-inch ductile iron water main along East and West Boulevards in East Rockaway. This project will replace aging two- and six- inch water mains that were originally installed in the 1920s. As part of this water main replacement project, New York American Water will also be replacing two fire hydrants and 85 utility-owned service lines. Upon completion, this infrastructure project will improve water quality and service reliability for residents while also increasing water flows for firefighting.

“New York American Water prides itself on its significant level investment to improve the water infrastructure throughout our service territories,” said Carmen Tierno, president of New York American Water. “The replacement of water mains is an essential part of ensuring the health and safety of a water system, and it’s for this reason that we dedicate such substantial portions of our capital expense budget for this type of work.”

This project is scheduled to begin on July 9th and continue for approximately six weeks. It will take place at the following locations:

  • East Boulevard from Kirgan Court to Cooke Street

  • West Boulevard from Sampson Street to Cooke Street

Residents should note that sections of the streets where construction is taking place may experience changes in traffic patterns or closures during work hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday). New York American Water is committed to the safety of nearby residents, as well as its employees, and it advises that pedestrians and drivers take caution while in the vicinity of work sites.
