New York American Water Replacing 800 Feet of Aging Water Main in Cedarhurst

Merrick, NY (March 11, 2019)—New York American Water is investing $200,000 to install a new eight-inch ductile iron water main along Church Avenue in Cedarhurst. The project, which began today, March 11, includes replacing approximately 800 feet of six-inch water main installed in the early 1900s with new eight-inch ductile iron water main. The project will also replace one hydrant and 20 utility-owned service lines.

“New York American Water is committed to replacement of water mains to improve customer service,” said New York American Water Manager of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “This project will improve water quality, service reliability and water pressure in the area.”

Main replacement will take place along Church Avenue from West Broadway to Carlyle Street and is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete. Final street restoration will be completed by the Village of Cedarhurst Road Construction Project after the services have been installed and pass all required tests from the Nassau County Department of Health.

New York American Water will coordinate with residents along Church Avenue to minimize disruptions. Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours.
