New York American Water Replacing 1,700 Feet of Aging Water Main in Malverne

Merrick, NY (April 12, 2019)—New York American Water is investing $400,000 to install new eight-inch ductile iron water main along Stuart Avenue and Oxford Street in Malverne. The project, scheduled to begin today, April 12, includes replacing approximately 1,700 feet of six-inch water main installed in the early 1900s with new eight-inch ductile iron water main. The project will also replace two hydrants and 55 utility-owned service lines.

“Infrastructure improvements are an important part of delivering high-quality water to our customers,” said New York American Water Manager of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “New York American Water is committed to continually investing in our system to ensure operations into the future.”

Main replacement will take place along Stuart Avenue from Rolling Street to Hempstead Avenue and along Oxford Street from Wicks Lane to Stuart Avenue. Work is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete. Final street restoration will be completed by the Village of Malverne Road Construction Project after the replacement water service lines to each home have been installed and all work has pass all required tests from the Nassau County Department of Health.

New York American Water will coordinate with residents along Stuart Avenue and Oxford Street to minimize disruptions. Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours.
