Valley Stream, NY (May 7, 2019) – New York American Water is investing $400,000 to install a new water main along Bucknell Road in Valley Stream. Work began today to install approximately 1,300 feet of eight-inch ductile iron main and 400 feet of six-inch ductile iron main, which will replace water mains that were first installed in the 1940s. The project will also replace three fire hydrants and transfer 18 utility-owned service lines to the new eight-inch ductile iron main.
“New York American Water strives to provide the highest-quality water to all its customers, and these infrastructure projects are essential in support of that goal,” said New York American Water Manager of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “The replacement of water mains helps us to achieve a higher level of customer satisfaction, while modernizing our system and strengthening its resilience.”
This main replacement project will take place along the entire length of Bucknell Road and is expected to take approximately four weeks to complete. Final restoration will be completed by the Village of Valley Stream’s road construction project after the new service lines have been installed and all work has passed required quality tests from the Nassau County Department of Health.
Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours. New York American Water will coordinate with residents along Bucknell Road to minimize disruptions.
