New York American Water Replacing Aging Water Mains in Malverne

Merrick, NY (July 8, 2019) – New York American Water is investing $320,000 to install a new eight-inch ductile iron water main along Rolling Street in Malverne. The project, scheduled to begin July 9, includes installing approximately 1,600 feet of eight-inch ductile iron main to replace six-inch cast iron main installed in the 1920s. The project will also replace one fire hydrant and 48 utility-owned service lines.

“New York American Water is committed to providing the highest-quality water to its customers and we continue to execute infrastructure improvement projects that work towards this goal,” said New York American Water Manager of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “Replacing water main lines allows us address the leading cause of discolored water.”

This main replacement project will take place along Rolling Street from Lakeview Ave to Wicks Lane. Work is expected to take approximately five weeks to complete. Final street restoration will be completed by the Village of Malverne’s road resurfacing project after the replacement water service lines to each home have been installed and all work has passed required quality tests from the Nassau County Department of Health.

Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place will be closed to traffic and access to driveways will be impacted during these working hours. New York American Water will coordinate with residents along Rolling Street to minimize disruptions.
