New York American Water Replacing Aging Water Mains in Merrick

Merrick, NY (September 23, 2019)—New York American Water is investing $2.5 million to install new water main along Merrick Road in Merrick, NY. The project, starting Monday, September 23, will help to ensure reliable water service and includes the installation of 3,000 feet of 12-inch ductile iron main and 400 feet of eight-inch ductile iron main. The project will also replace six fire hydrants and 20 utility-owned service lines.

“Water main replacement projects are vitally important to reinforcing our water distribution system,” said New York American Water Manager of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “Aging water mains can experience leaks and breaks, so New York American Water strives to be proactive in replacing water mains where leaks have been detected to avoid a significant break and disruption of service.”

This main replacement project will take place along Merrick Road from Kenny Avenue to Newbridge Road. Work is expected to take approximately five weeks to complete. Final street restoration will be incorporated within the Nassau County Road Resurfacing Project.

Work will take place between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, and between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Saturdays.
