New York American Water Replacing Aging Water Mains in Wantagh

Wantagh, NY (December 4, 2019)— New York American Water is investing $650,000 to install new water main along Atlantic Blvd in Wantagh. The project, scheduled to begin December 4, includes installing 2,350 feet of 8-inch ductile iron main. The project will also replace three fire hydrants and 53 utility-owned service lines.

This main replacement project will take place along Atlantic Blvd from Merrick Road to Byron Street in Wantagh. Work is expected to take approximately six weeks to complete. Final street restoration will be completed when weather permits.

“Water main replacement is necessary to ensure the resiliency of our water distribution system,” said New York American Water Manager of Engineering John Kilpatrick. “Proactive replacement of aging water mains reduces the likelihood of interruptions of water service due to leaks and breaks, and allows us to provide better service for our customers.”

Work will take place between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during these working hours. New York American Water will coordinate with residents along Atlantic Blvd to minimize disruptions.
