Investing $650,000 in Valley Stream

Water Main Replacement Project Scheduled to Begin November 21, 2017

Valley Stream, NY (November 17, 2017)—New York American Water is investing $650,000 to replace a 2-inch ductile iron main, originally installed in the 1920’s, with 2,100 feet of new 8-inch ductile iron main. In addition, New York American Water will be replacing four fire hydrants and a total of 55 services will be replaced or transferred. The investment project will improve water quality and service reliability for residents and increase water flows for commercial use and firefighting.

“Our mission is to consistently supply safe and reliable drinking water to our customers,” said Carmen Tierno, president of New York American Water. “This investment will help us to maintain high water quality and increase water flows for both residential use and firefighting, improving service for all of our customers.”

The scheduled main replacement project is in Valley Stream along West Argyle Street between Corona Avenue and Grove Street as well as East Argyle Street from Emerson Avenue to Foster Avenue. The project is expected to begin on November 21, 2017, weather permitting, with a projected duration of approximately six weeks.

Residents should note that sections of the street where construction is taking place may be closed to traffic during work hours (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday).
