McKeesport Sewer System Update

WE LOOK FORWARD TO SERVING YOU!

Working in partnership with The Municipal Authority of the City of McKeesport (MACM),
Pennsylvania American Water continues to make progress in finalizing the proposed
purchase of MACM’s wastewater system. Our goal is to ensure that the pending acquisition
provides the residents of the City of McKeesport, Duquesne, Dravosburg, and Port Vue, with
quality wastewater service at a fair and reasonable rate for many years to come. Here are
some answers to commonly asked questions. We hope you find this helpful.

WHAT IS THE STATUS OF THE ACQUISITION?

Pennsylvania American Water filed an application to acquire the MACM wastewater system
with the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission (PUC). The PUC approved the purchase on
October 26, 2017. Pennsylvania American Water and MACM officials are also working with
the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection and U.S. Environmental Protection
Agency to secure all the necessary regulatory approvals. We currently expect to close the
transaction within the next few weeks, once the regulatory review process is completed.

WHAT CHANGES WILL OCCUR WITH RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMER BILLING?

Once the transaction is closed, Pennsylvania American Water will begin providing wastewater
service and billing to all customers currently served by The Municipal Authority of the City of
McKeesport. We expect your final bill from MACM will arrive in mid-December and that your
first bill from Pennsylvania American Water will be due in mid-January of 2018.

WILL MY WASTEWATER RATES CHANGE?

Under the purchase agreement approved by the PUC, there will be no change to your
wastewater rates resulting from the change in ownership. You will continue to pay MACM’s
existing rates after closing.

WHAT PAYMENT OPTIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ME?

As a customer of Pennsylvania American Water, you will have the option to pay your
wastewater bill by mail, online, by phone or in person at one of our authorized payment
locations, which can be found on our website at pennsylvaniaamwater.com. Pennsylvania
American Water will also accept customer payments at the current MACM office at 2800
Walnut Street in McKeesport, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Pennsylvania American Water also offers its web self-service portal “My Account Online,”
where customers can view and pay their bill online, enroll in our Auto Pay and Paperless
Billing programs and more.

Pennsylvania American Water also offers assistance to low-income customers through its Help to Others (H2O) Program™. The program provides grants and discounts on wastewater bills for customers who qualify.  Click here to learn more.

HOW WILL I KNOW WHEN THE TRANSACTION IS FINAL?

After the transaction closes, you will receive a letter and welcome packet from Pennsylvania
American Water with additional information. You can also check here on our website.
