Pennsylvania American Water Plans $600,000 Water Line Upgrade in Derry and South Londonderry Townships

HERSHEY, Pa. (May 13, 2019) – Pennsylvania American Water today announced the start of construction to replace aging water main in Derry and South Londonderry Townships to improve service reliability and prevent water outages. The combined cost of the projects is more than $600,000 and will replace outdated and failing pipe dating back as far back as the 1940s.

In South Londonderry Township, work begins later this month to replace approximately 450 feet of pipe along West Market Street between Main Street (Route 322) and the municipal building. The company expects to complete construction by the end of June, and the township will perform final paving restoration later this year.

In mid-June, crews in Derry Township will install 2,500 feet of new eight-inch ductile iron pipe between the Innsbruck Drive cul-de-sac and the end of Rhue Hause Lane, along with a portion of High Point Drive. The company expects to complete construction by the end of August, with final paving restoration scheduled to be completed by October, weather permitting.

Crews will work weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction, and motorists are urged to give themselves extra time and exercise caution when traveling through the work zone. During construction, customers might experience temporary water service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure.
