Pennsylvania American Water Announces $7.4 Million in Washington County Water System Upgrades

McMurray, Pa. – Pennsylvania American Water announced today the start of construction to replace approximately 7.5 miles of aging water main in Washington County to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents. The combined cost of these system improvements is approximately $7.4 million.

“These water main replacement projects help support our promise to deliver clean, dependable drinking water to our customers,” said Pennsylvania American Water Senior Manager of Operations, Jason Gentile. “In addition, the replacement of more than 50 fire hydrants throughout the area will help ensure first responders have access to the water they need to protect our communities.”

The company’s Washington County system provides water service to more than 123,000 people.

These pipeline replacement projects are in addition to a $6.2 investment to construct two new water storage tanks, including a 750,000 gallon water storage tank on South Hewitt Avenue in Canton Township. Work on the approximately $3 million tank will be completed in June and the tank put into service by mid-summer. Additionally, a 500,000 gallon storage tank on Stoops Drive in Monongahela will be completed by late-summer. The $3.2 million project will improve system reliability, storage utilization and fire protection.
