Punxsutawney, Pa. – Pennsylvania American Water announced today the start of construction to replace approximately 1 mile of aging water main in its Punxsutawney service area to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents. The combined cost of these system improvements is approximately $1.3 million.
“These water main replacement projects support our promise to deliver clean, dependable drinking water to our customers,” said David Drozd, senior supervisor of operations. “In addition, the replacement of four aging fire hydrants will enhance fire protection throughout the area.”
The company’s Punxsutawney system provides water service to more than 3,500 customers.
These pipeline replacement projects are in addition to the rehabilitation of a 300,000-gallon water storage tank located on Hillcrest Drive in Young Township. Weather permitting, work to repaint the interior and exterior of the tank will start in early June 2019. The $575,000 project is expected to be completed by late fall of this year.
The pipeline upgrades will begin on Monday, June 10, with the replacement of aging water mains along Spruce Street in McCalmont Township. Over the next several months, the company plans to replace aging water main in the following areas:
- Cherry Street
- North Chestnut Street
- Indiana Street
Big Run Borough
