Kentucky American Water Announces Water Main Replacement Projects

Projects Reflect Approximately $5.6 Million in Investment

Kentucky American Water has announced several water main improvement projects in Lexington beginning this spring, with more projects to come. As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to providing safe, clean and reliable water service, the company is investing approximately $5.6 million in water main upgrades on Arcadia Park, McCubbing Rd., Sycamore Rd., Preston Ave., Whispering Wood Lane, Willlowlawn Ave., Kastle Rd., and Melrose Ave.

These projects involve replacing aging cast iron water mains -- several of which are nearly a century old -- with new, ductile iron pipes, as part of the company’s Qualified Infrastructure Program (QIP). These efforts improve service reliability for customers by reducing service disruptions as well as maintaining and improving water quality. The projects also include replacing fire hydrants, valves, meters and utility-owned service lines along the pipeline routes.

The company’s contractor crews generally work Monday through Friday during daytime hours as weather and other factors permit. For the public’s and workers’ safety, traffic restrictions and/or alternating traffic patterns may occur during work hours. Kentucky American Water values the safety of its workers and advises drivers and pedestrians to take caution in the vicinity of work sites.
