New Jersey American Water Invests $1.8 Million in Camden County Infrastructure
New Jersey American Water is investing approximately $1.8 million to upgrade water infrastructure in Camden County. The company will replace over one mile of aging cast iron water main in Camden and Laurel Springs. Both systems, built in the 1900s, will be upgraded to new, 8-inch ductile iron main and installed on the following streets:
Camden
- Carman Street from Marlton Avenue to Baird Boulevard
- Bank Street from Carman Street to Mickle Street
- South 24th Street from Marlton Avenue to Federal Street
- South 26th Street from Federal Street to Mickle Street
- Mickle Street from Marlton Avenue to Bank Street
Laurel Springs
- Fairmount Avenue from Stone Road to White Horse Pike
This $1.8 million investment will continue to advance water service reliability and increase water flows for household consumption and fire protection in these communities. These improvements are part of New Jersey American Water’s multimillion-dollar initiative to accelerate the renewal of water infrastructure that has reached the end of its useful life in more than 100 communities across the state.
Work in Camden began the week of June 2 and is expected to be completed by the end of July 2025. Work in Laurel Springs began in mid-June and is expected to be completed by the end of December 2025. Final street restorations in both communities will take place by the end of 2025.
New Jersey American Water’s local, qualified contractor, Pioneer Pipe Contractors, Inc., is performing the work in both locations. Work hours for both projects will be from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and will continue until project completion. Work outside of these hours is not expected unless required to maintain the project schedule.
Project timelines are subject to change due to a variety of factors including weather and availability of supplies.
