Major $3 Million Water System Upgrade Set to Begin This Week in Elizabeth Township
Pennsylvania American Water announces five projects to replace more than a mile of water main
MCMURRAY, Pa. (June 3, 2025) – Pennsylvania American Water announced that water main upgrade projects in Elizabeth Township, constituting an investment of more than $3 million, will begin this week to improve reliability for customers, reduce service disruptions and increase water flow for firefighting.
"Providing reliable service to our customers means making continuous investments in our infrastructure,” said Tiffany Reed, senior manager of operations for Pennsylvania American Water. “We prioritize projects based on number of criteria, including the need for larger mains to handle system demands, age of existing pipe and history of main breaks or service interruptions.”
The projects involve installing 1.4 miles of new eight-inch and 12-inch ductile iron pipe to replace existing lines that were originally installed in the 1950s. Crews will begin installing a new water main on Saratoga Drive, from Duncan Station Drive to Concord Drive. Once the Saratoga Drive project is complete, work crews will proceed with the projects in the following order:
- Arrow Drive (from Rock Run Road to the dead end)
- Scenery Drive (from Peairs Road to Weigles Hill Road)
- Schweitzer Road (from Virginia Avenue to Terrace Drive)
- Constitution Boulevard (from Chicagoan Street to Greenock Buena Vista Road)
Crews will work on weekdays between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. Traffic restrictions will be in place during construction. The company expects to complete the main installation, including connecting all customer service lines to the new mains, along with final restoration and paving, later this summer.
During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and/or lower than normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences. For more information, contact Pennsylvania American Water’s customer service center at 1-800-565-7292.
This infrastructure upgrade project is not only an important investment in public health and safety, it also helps support the economic health of the community. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $675 million in 2024 alone to improve its water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 10,125 jobs through these continued investments.
