(Chattanooga, TN) – February 10, 2025 – Tennessee American Water is thrilled to announce the launch of the American Water Charitable Foundation 2025 Water and Environment Grant Program. The Foundation invites community partners to apply for grants that promote clean water, conservation, environmental education, and water-based recreation projects.
"The American Water Charitable Foundation's Water Environment Grant has supported WaterWays’ efforts to address water quality and litter issues in our watersheds, particularly in our urban neighborhoods,” said WaterWays Executive Director, Mary Beth Sutton. “The 2024 grant award allowed us to better open the doors to nature in our Chattanooga Creek watershed through environmental education and community programs.”
Through several American Water Charitable Foundation grant programs, the Foundation has supported local organizations throughout the years, including:
- $150,000 grant in 2018 for the City of Chattanooga’s East Lake Park natural play space and outdoor classroom;
- $250,000 grant in 2022 to the City of East Ridge for a fishing pier at Camp Jordan’s Dickert Memorial Pond; and a
- $27,710 grant in 2024 to WaterWays to address litter and water quality through environmental education and community outreach in urban watersheds.
"At Tennessee American Water we are committed to protecting our watersheds and drinking water sources," said Grant Evitts, President of Tennessee American Water. "We believe it’s all of our responsibility to safeguard water resources. We are grateful for the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Water and Environment Grant supporting local environmental efforts."
In addition to WaterWays, the Foundation supported the following organizations in the Chattanooga area through the 2024 Water and Environment Grant Program:
- Reflection Riding Arboretum and Nature Center – Volunteer-driven clean-up of Lookout and Black Creeks during Tennessee River Rescue ($5,500)
- Orange Grove Center – Support for a garden to provide experiences to individuals with disabilities while improving campus biodiversity ($5,000)
- Council For Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services – Empower those in recovery through therapeutic gardening to cultivate hope, healing, and resilience ($5,000)
