Beginning Friday, June 16 and continuing through the weekend, some customers in
Virginia American Water’s Alexandria system experienced several water main breaks. These main breaks were located in Alexandria’s Jefferson Park area. Repairs of the impacted mains were performed, along with an investigation into high water pressure in this area. We have concluded that the main breaks were in part caused by a pressure reducing valve (PRV) that was not functioning properly. At this time, Virginia American Water has switched to a backup PRV while repairs are made to the primary PRV. Thank you for your patience.
