How to get involved in the planning process

Newly enacted state regulations on source water protection planning encourage public input in the planning process. West Virginia American Water is committed to informing and engaging the public, local governments, local emergency planners, local health departments and affected residents throughout its planning process and offering multiple opportunities for public input.

As part of this process, summaries and certain components of each system’s draft Source Water Protection Plan (SWPP) are available online for review and will be presented at a series of meetings. Click here for a list of draft SWPPs and select your water system from the list to review the publicly available information.

Certain components of the plans cannot be shared publicly or are protected from public disclosure for safety and security purposes, such as locations, characteristics and approximate quantities of potential sources of contamination within Zones of Critical Concern as well as utility Emergency Response Plans. Although these parts of proposed SWPPs will not be reviewable, you can still provide information related to any component of the SWPP for consideration by the utility’s source water protection team.
