Taste & Odor Alert

Customers in Tennessee American Water’s Chattanooga service area may notice taste or odor changes with their drinking water due to the ongoing hot weather our region is experiencing. Neither issue poses a health concern, and the situation is temporary. The taste or odor change that is noticeable to some customers is due to seasonal changes in the Tennessee River source water caused by hot, dry conditions, and lack of rainfall. We have adjusted treatment at the plant to help mitigate this. Please be assured that we are continuously monitoring your drinking water supply to ensure we continue to meet EPA and Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation water quality guidelines. We appreciate your patience as we work to correct this.
