Kentucky American Water Accepting Applications for 2015 Environmental Grant Program

Kentucky American Water is now accepting applications for the 2015 American Water Environmental Grant Program awards from area organizations. The program provides grants for innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect the watersheds, surface water and/or groundwater supplies through partnerships. The maximum grant amount is $10,000.

Kentucky American Water has awarded $165,000 in grant program funds since launching the program in Kentucky in 2006.

“As a water utility, we appreciate the efforts that others in the region are making to protect our precious water resources,” said Cheryl Norton, president of Kentucky American Water. “This program is one way we help communities continue to play an active role in this important effort.”

To qualify, proposed projects must:

  • Address a source water or watershed protection need in the community
  • Be completed between May 1, 2015 and November 29, 2015
  • Be a new or innovative program for the community, or serve as a significant expansion to an
    existing program
  • Be carried out by a formal or informal partnership between two or more organizations
  • Provide evidence of sustainability (continued existence after the Kentucky American Water grant monies are utilized)
  • Be located within Kentucky American Water’s service area.

Applications should be forwarded by email to susan.lancho@amwater.com or mailed to Kentucky American Water, c/o External Affairs, 2300 Richmond Road, Lexington, KY 40502. Applications that are mailed must be postmarked by March 13, 2015. Recipients will be notified in April 2015.
