Missouri American Water Announces Six Projects Will Receive Funding From Environmental Grant Program

Individual projects across the state address watershed protection
JOPLIN, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Missouri American Water today announced that six watershed-related projects received funding from the company’s annual Environmental Grant Program.
These grants are part of American Water’s national Environmental Grant Program, which began in 2005. In 2011, American Water’s Environmental Grant Program provided grants to 35 projects throughout the states where the company has operations.
The 2012 grant recipients are:
- Chariton County Community Foundation, Brunswick, $5000 for installation of eight rain gardens in the downtown Brunswick courtyard project to prevent run-off into the Grand River.
- Missouri Rural Water Association, Ashland, $4680 the creation of drug drop-off points throughout the state with funds focused primarily on education and publicity materials for 21 events.
- Mexico Parks and Recreation, Mexico, $3800 for construction of a run-off detention rain garden as part of a joint project between the YMCAS and the City of Mexico.
- St. Joseph Youth Alliance, St. Joseph, $2000 for development of a multi-faceted plan to improve and promote water quality in the Otoe Creek watershed.
- Keysor School, Kirkwood, $3000 for the construction of rain gardens in an outdoor learning center for the purpose of watershed protection.
- The Alliance of Southwest Missouri, Joplin, $4500 for the purchase of a cyclonic incinerator to be used for prescription drug take-back events.
