Missouri American Water Now Accepting Applications for 2014 Environmental Grant Program

Grants Available to Community Projects in Service Areas

JOPLIN, Mo.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Missouri American Water, a subsidiary of American Water Works Company, Inc., the nation’s largest publicly traded water and wastewater utility company, is announcing that applications are now being accepted for the company’s 2014 Environmental Grant Program.

Established in 2005, American Water’s Environmental Grant Program offers funds for innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect the watersheds, surface water and/or groundwater supplies through partnerships.

“Missouri American Water is dedicated to ensuring water quality through testing and treatment, as well as through consumer education and community source protection programs,” said Frank Kartmann, President, Missouri American Water. “We all have a responsibility to be environmental stewards in terms of protecting our water supplies and in encouraging future generations to do the same.”

To qualify, proposed projects must:

  • Address a source water or watershed protection need in the community
  • Be completed between May 1, 2014 and November 30, 2014
  • Be a new or innovative program for the community, or serve as a significant expansion to an existing program
  • Be carried out by a formal or informal partnership between two or more organizations
  • Provide evidence of sustainability (continued existence after the Missouri American Water grant monies are utilized)

Information and application requirements can be obtained directly from participating American Water state subsidiaries, or on the company Web site at www.missouriamwater.com under the “Water Quality and Stewardship” heading. Applications must be postmarked by March 31, 2014 and recipients will be notified by April 14, 2014.

In 2013, a total of six projects throughout Missouri American Water’s service area were awarded grants totaling more than $22,000.
