Missouri American Water Proudly Recognizes American Water Charitable Foundation 2022 Water and the Environment Grantee
Hazelwood School District receives grant for new hydration stations
HAZELWOOD, MO. (August 24, 2022) – The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest publicly traded U.S. water and wastewater utility company, recently announced the Hazelwood School District was awarded a 2022 Water and the Environment Grant to support communities served by Missouri American Water.
“Students in the Hazelwood School District will have greater access to safe and healthy hydration thanks to the American Water Charitable Foundation’s 2022 Water and the Environment Grant,” said Rich Svindland, president of Missouri American Water. “We’re so pleased the school district will receive nearly $30,000 from the Foundation to help purchase indoor water bottle refilling stations and drinking fountains.”
The grant from the American Water Charitable Foundation will help Hazelwood School District purchase 33 indoor hydration stations to keep cool water flowing for more than 19,000 children and faculty members.
"Providing our students and staff with access to safe, clean drinking water is so important," said Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, Hazelwood School District Superintendent. "This grant will aid us in our effort to install new bottle filling stations throughout our schools."
The Hazelwood School District is the second-largest district in St. Louis County, with 20 elementary schools, six middle schools, three high schools, early childhood education programs, gifted programs, and alternative learning.
Earlier this year Missouri American Water also launched a Hydration Station Grant Program to expand access to clean drinking water across the state. Twenty schools, cities, and nonprofit organizations received grants, including Hazelwood Northwest Middle School and Hazelwood Opportunity Center.
“The American Water Charitable Foundation is pleased to partner with organizations across Missouri American Water to provide equitable and accessible projects and programs focused on clean water, environmental education, access to water-based recreation and more,” said Carrie Williams, president of the American Water Charitable Foundation. “Funding for the Water and the Environment grant supports high-impact projects that engage communities in learning how every drop counts.”
The Water and the Environment grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation’s Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. Learn more about the American Water Charitable Foundation’s community impact here.
