Missouri American Water Recognized During Metro Water Infrastructure Partnership (MWIP) Farewell Dinner
Dateline City:
ST. LOUIS
ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--As a member organization, Missouri American Water was recognized at an
awards ceremony signifying the conclusion of the Metro Water
Infrastructure Partnership (MWIP).
MWIP, an organization dedicated to advancing community conversations
about the importance of investing in our region’s water and wastewater
infrastructure, recently awarded member institutions for their years of
work on behalf of the organization.
“While the work of educating the people of the St. Louis region about
the need to properly invest in our aging infrastructure will continue,
MWIP as an organization will disband,” said Curt Skouby, President of
MWIP and Director of the City of St. Louis Water Department. “MWIP has
done fantastic work over its 10 years of existence, but the time has
come for the member institutions to focus on other needs specific to
their business.”
At its wrap-up gala on Thursday, current and former members celebrated
their time in the organization and its various accomplishments,
including bringing together local leaders for educational events,
educating local youth about the water system, and conducting a study to
properly measure the area’s water and wastewater infrastructure needs.
Among the key findings of the study:
-
Nearly half of the bi-state St. Louis regional system has exceeded its
expected life, and should be considered for replacement.
-
Replacing underground pipe is expensive, costing $1 million per mile
or more depending on location. Water rates must go up to support
increased rate of replacement.
-
Comparing 2018 to 2011, more people today: (1) recognize the
importance of water infrastructure; (2) are concerned with the quality
of our region's infrastructure; and (3) would be willing to invest in
and pay more to support water infrastructure maintenance and upgrades.
The following member organizations were recognized with an MWIP
Appreciation Award at the dinner:
-

-
Illinois American Water
-
City of Kirkwood Water
-
City of St. Louis Water
-
