Pennsylvania American Water Announces $1.5 Million Washington County Water System Upgrade
The project is scheduled to begin in the City of Monongahela next week
PITTSBURGH, Pa. (June 23, 2023) – Pennsylvania American Water announced today the start of construction to install approximately 2,500 feet of new water main in the City of Monongahela, Washington County, to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents. The cost of these system improvements is approximately $1.5 million.
Weather permitting, Pennsylvania American Water contractors will start construction along 4th Street, between Grant and West Main Streets, on Tuesday, June 27. Work hours will be Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
While standard traffic patterns will occur during non-project hours, the company encourages motorists to find alternative routes and avoid the project area during project hours.
Customers will be notified before the start of construction. Work outside these hours is only expected if required to maintain the project schedule. Final street restorations will be completed by late October 2023.
During construction, customers might experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water, and lower-than-normal water pressure. Crews will work as quickly as possible to shorten the length of these temporary inconveniences.
This infrastructure upgrade project is an essential investment in public health and safety and helps support the economic health of the communities we serve. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy. Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $490 million in 2022 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 7,000 jobs through these continued investments.
Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and wastewater services to approximately 2.3 million people.
