Pennsylvania American Water Announces $2 Million Fall Fayette County Water System Upgrade
Uniontown replacement project scheduled to begin on Monday
Uniontown, Pa. (Sept. 30, 2023) – Pennsylvania American Water announced today that it is replacing and upsizing approximately 4,000 feet of small, aging water main in Fayette County to improve service reliability and fire protection for residents. The cost of these system improvements is approximately $2 million.
Pennsylvania American Water contractors will begin installing a new water main along Euclid Avenue in the city of Uniontown on Monday, October 2. Project hours will be Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Work outside these hours is only expected if required to maintain the project schedule.
Traffic will be reduced to one lane in the project area. The company encourages motorists to find alternative routes and avoid the construction area during project hours.
In 2023, the company will replace additional water mains in the following areas:
Uniontown
- Ellwood Street
- Prospect Street
- Markle Street
- Trader Street
- Euclid Street
- Douglas Street
Connellsville
- Chestnut Street
- East Cedar Street
This year, the company is also improving its water systems in the Greater Pittsburgh area, including Fayette and Washington counties, by installing 33 miles of new mains to enhance service reliability and fire protection. The total cost of these upgrades year to date is around $73 million.
These infrastructure upgrade projects are an essential investment in public health and safety and help support the economic health of the communities we serve. Economic impact studies show that for every $1 million invested in water infrastructure, upwards of 15 jobs are generated throughout the economy.
Statewide, Pennsylvania American Water invested approximately $490 million in 2022 alone to improve our water and wastewater treatment and pipeline systems, supporting more than 7,000 jobs through these continued investments.
Pennsylvania American Water, a subsidiary of American Water (NYSE: AWK), is the largest investor-owned water utility in the state, providing high-quality and reliable water and wastewater services to approximately 2.3 million people.
