Tennessee American Water Proudly Recognizes Partnership with Urban League of Greater Chattanooga

American Water Charitable Foundation provides a combined total $260,000 to support workforce development initiatives for the National Urban League and Affiliate Movement

Chattanooga, TN – DECEMBER 6, 2024 – The American Water Charitable Foundation, a 501(c)(3) organization established by American Water, the largest regulated water and wastewater utility company in the U.S., and Tennessee American Water, announced today that the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga has received a $20,000 commitment as part of a larger Foundation Corporate Strategic grant. Funding will enhance workforce development initiatives that help close the equality gap for African Americans and other historically underserved groups throughout the Tennessee American Water footprint.

“We are honored to have been chosen for this amazing opportunity to help build capacity in our workforce and family empowerment space,” said Candy Johnson, President & CEO of the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga. “The American Water Charitable Foundation’s generosity enables us to continue our holistic approach to talent and leadership development through our Family Prosperity Initiative.”

The Family Prosperity Initiative is designed to connect diverse, low-income, and underserved families to personal development resources, economic assets, educational credentials, and training opportunities, ultimately improving the quality of life for those who have experienced barriers to success.

“American Water’s support reflects their unwavering commitment to fostering equitable outcomes and building thriving communities and we are grateful for their continued partnership,” continued Johnson.

At the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga’s 42nd annual Equal Opportunity Day breakfast earlier this week, Tennessee American Water was recognized with the Inclusion by Design Award. This award honors an organization that embraces inclusion through its business practices and community engagement activities.

"Tennessee American Water is proud to support the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga through our collaboration with the American Water Charitable Foundation," said Grant Evitts, president of Tennessee American Water. "We are deeply honored to receive the Inclusion by Design award from the Urban League of Greater Chattanooga, recognizing our efforts to strengthen the communities we serve."

The Corporate Strategic grant is part of the American Water Charitable Foundation 2024 Keep Communities Flowing Grant Program, focusing on three pillars of giving: Water, People and Communities. Corporate Strategic grants support high-impact programs that align with American Water’s values of being a solutions provider, where we seek to influence positive change and help keep communities flowing, improving and thriving.

“The American Water Charitable Foundation is delighted to support impactful workforce development initiatives and programming that help prepare future leaders of tomorrow,” said Carrie Williams, President, American Water Charitable Foundation.

Since 2012, the American Water Charitable Foundation has donated to worthy causes and organizations in communities served by American Water. Being a good neighbor and steward of the environment has always been central to the mission of American Water and Tennessee American Water.
