West Virginia American Water Announces Source Water Protection Video Premiere

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Dec. 2, 2024) – West Virginia American Water announced today the premiere of its Source Water Protection video highlighting improvements and advancements the company has made since January 2014.  

 

“It has been ten years since the Freedom Industries chemical spill that occurred in January 2014,” said Robert Burton, president of West Virginia American Water. “West Virginia American Water’s effective actions during and following that event were nationally recognized, and our company is proud to serve as a leader in source water protection across the country. We’re pleased to share this video showcasing the advancements we’ve made over the last decade.”

 

West Virginia American Water enhanced its existing business continuity and source water protection plans across its systems to provide early warning detection, upstream monitoring and publicly available source water protection plans among other enhancements. In 2020, the company was recognized by the American Water Works Association as Exemplary Source Water Protection Program of the Year among all large water utilities across the nation.
