Virginia: Alexandria: Alexandria City Virginia American Water will begin routine flushing of its water distribution system in Alexandria on Monday, April 6th through Friday, April 17th. Hydrant flushing will take place weekdays between 8:00 am and 4:30 pm. This work is necessary to ensure that you continue to receive high-quality water service. Flushing also allows us to monitor and maintain fire hydrants. This is an essential part of our system maintenance program and is unrelated to the current COVID-19 pandemic. When crews are working in your area, you may notice reduced pressure or discolored water. If your water is discolored, wait until it runs clear before using. This should typically take only a few minutes. Our drinking water treatment barriers provide protection that includes filtration and disinfection of our water supplies. These treatments are effective in removing and/or inactivating viruses. Our water meets all current federal and state drinking water requirements. East Custis Avenue, Alexandria
3/17/2020 10:30:24 PM
East Custis Avenue, Alexandria This is an important announcement from Virginia American Water. On Monday, March 16, a message was sent regarding a brief shutdown of water Wednesday, March 18 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. to take an existing water valve out of service and reconnect a fire hydrant to the water main along East Custis Avenue. As many of our Alexandria residents are currently at home safely practicing social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, we decided it would be best to postpone this shutdown to avoid any non-emergent disruptions of water. We will reassess this situation after April 30 and more information will be shared with our residents. Please continue to follow our website, virginiaamwater.com, for updates. If you have additional questions, please email Nicolle.Bradford@amwater.com or call 703-706-3881.
