Environmental Grant Program
Our commitment to protecting the environment runs deep and we’re proud to support the efforts of local organizations that share our vision.
Maryland American Water offers funding for innovative, community-based environmental projects that improve, restore or protect the watersheds, surface water and groundwater supplies in our local communities.
We are pleased to offer assistance to community partners to help make a positive impact on the environment, and we encourage you to apply. The 2020 grant application will be available in February 2020.
To qualify for Environmental Grant funding, a proposed project must be:
- Located within an American Water service area
- Completed between May and November of the grant funding year
- Be a new or innovative community initiative, or serve as significant expansion to an existing program.
In 2019, Maryland American Water issued a grant to the following organization:
Gunpowder Valley Conservancy received $1,100 for stream cleanup supplies and native plants as part of expanding the Clear Creeks project into the Loch Raven Reservoir. This project expansion includes educating local residents about water quality issues and mobilizing volunteers to clean up 20 stream sites. Volunteers will also plant new native trees and maintain existing trees, as well as maintain one mile of trail in the Loch Raven watershed to prevent erosion and sediment pollution.
