PORTABLE METERS

Tennessee American Water has available a limited number of portable meters for customers who have a need to connect to a hydrant temporarily, like filling a pool or developers who need access to water for construction. Customers are billed a $298 flat fee per month plus water usage charges based on our approved rates.

How do I apply for a portable meter?
Email TAWInquiries@amwater.com to inquire about availability as we have a limited number.

Please indicate in your email which location within one of Tennessee American Water’s service district you will be using the portable meter, so we can refer you to the correct one.

  • Chattanooga District includes Red Bank, East Ridge, Lookout Mtn. TN & GA, Rossville, GA
  • Sequatchie Valley District includes Whitwell, Powells Crossroads, Suck Creek, Jasper Highlands in Marion County and portions of Sequatchie County adjacent to Marion County

What is the cost for a portable meter?
There is a flat fee of $298 per month in addition to a usage charge based on the amount of water you used. Customers are billed on a monthly basis and the bill is pro-rated for partial months.

What paperwork do I need to provide?
If a meter is available at the time you have requested, you will need to provide a valid drivers license and provide all billing information.

Where do I pick up the portable meter?
We will provide details of where to pick up your meter after we receive your email and confirm availability. You will pick up the meter from one of our operations center – Chattanooga or Sequatchie Valley - depending on the location where you will be using it.

Where do I return the portable meter after I no longer need it?
It your responsibility to return the meter after you have completed using it. You will return the portable meter after you no longer need it to the location where you picked it up.
