CARES ACT UTILITY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

West Virginia American Water is pleased to share that some customers may be eligible for a one-time utility assistance grant through the CARES Act utility assistance program. Governor Jim Justice and Public Service Commission Chairman Charlotte Lane recently announced this utility assistance program for customers that were unable to pay all or part of their water and/or wastewater bills during the period of March 1, 2020 to July 31, 2020 as a result of COVID-19 related hardships. Eligible customers will receive a notification by mail and/or email. With limited funding available, customers are urged to act quickly. Applications must be submitted by Thursday, November 12, 2020.

PLEASE NOTE: Customers are only eligible for the amount of funding designated on the application they will receive by mail. Additional past due balances beyond the designated eligible funding on the application are the responsibility of the customer.

Funding Distribution

West Virginia American Water has partnered with Dollar Energy Fund to administer the CARES Act utility assistance program. Customers will submit applications to Dollar Energy Fund by email, online or mail (as listed above) and the organization will review and approve the request. Once approved, Dollar Energy Fund will submit a request to the State of West Virginia on behalf of the customer for the amount requested to cover your water and/or wastewater arrearages. The State of West Virginia will then issue the funds directly to West Virginia American Water to cover the approved amount of your past due balance. Customers will not receive a payment sent directly to them. Customers will be responsible for submitting payment on any additional past due balance that is not covered by the utility assistance program in order to avoid late fees and/or service disconnection.
