PA ONE CALL

Painted markings on roadways and sidewalks are far from graffiti or children’s sidewalk art.  They are a very important part of utility work in communities across the commonwealth.  The painted areas indicate utility lines running underground and are part of the Pennsylvania One Call.

Pennsylvania One Call reminds homeowners to “Call Before You Dig” to prevent damage to underground facilities and promote safe excavation, for both workers and homeowners.  In Pennsylvania, homeowners and contractors are required to contact PA One Call by dialing 8-1-1 before excavation work begins, so that utilities can mark the location of underground infrastructure.

Pennsylvania One Call notifies the appropriate utilities, allowing them to mark their underground infrastructure in the area of the work site.  Pennsylvania American Water participates in and supports the Call 811 program, and reminds customers to “Know what’s below.  Call before you dig.”
